wbadmin and >2TB volume
wbadmin fails trying to get asystem state on a CCR cluster node with a 300G C: drive and 2.9TB D: drive. OS is "Server 2008". The error generated is:"Volumes must be smaller than 2 TB minus (-) 4 GB to be protected".Is there anyway to get a system state backup of this system without making the volume smaller? If not andthe volume must be made smaller than 2TB is it possible or wiseto "shrink" the volumes on the CCR nodes?

"You cannot use Windows Server Backup to back up file and folders on volumes that require more than 2040 GB (or 2 TB). However, as long as the data size is less than 2 TB, you can perform a file or folder backup. For example, you can back up 1.5 TB of data from a 3-TB volume. But, a full server or volume recovery using the backup will recreate a 2-TB volume instead of a 3-TB volume."-http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc732091.aspx Applies To: Windows Server 2008 R2I dont think the System would have any problem with shrinking a CCR volume. The only concern I would have is if the quorum disk were modified and CCR doesnt use that quorum model anyway. (even though I'm not SURE that would matter). also on a SCC style cluster you could have disk locking that might freak out, but again not an issue if you are using the recommended FSW quorum model for CCR. You can shrink a W2K8 volume.http://www.petri.co.il/shrinking-a-partition-in-windows-vista-or-server-2008.htmAs for CCR I have to ask how many storage groups are you using? Rather then using a large drive you could use mount points. http://blogs.techrepublic.com.com/datacenter/?p=383SF - MCITP:EMA, MCTS

Here is a document regarding changing the size of shared disks in a cluster. The article is forServer 2003, but it might be reassure you that clustering would accept this sort of change...How to extend the partition of a cluster shared diskhttp://support.microsoft.com/kb/304736 Mike Crowley A+, Network+, Security+, MCT, MCSE, MCTS, MCITP: Enterprise Administrator / Messaging Administrator
